History
A little history about Rose Bay…it was named after joint secretary to the British Treasury, the Right Honourable George Rose, and has been used since 1788.
Rose Bay was once a training area from 1912 to 1927 for over 3,000 Australian Sailors, on the HMAS Tingira, and there is now a small park on the waterfront at Rose Bay commemorating the Tingira and the Sailors that trained and serviced Australia in World War I.
Rose Bay was also Sydney’s first International Airport, with seaplane flights to and from London, at what is now known as Rose Bay Water Airport.
Rose Bay is home to some of Australia’s most prestigious heritage homes, owned by many of whom shaped Sydney into the place it is is today. These include the Rose Bay Cottage, located in Salisbury Road and built in 1834, and Fernleigh Castle, built in 1892 which resembles a castle with it’s turrets and square Norman Tower and features aged sandstone and stained glass windows throughout its thirty rooms.

Rose Bay is home to two private schools as well as public schools Rose Bay Secondary College and rose Bay Public School.
Transport
Rose Bay’s ferry wharf provides easy access to the eastern Sydney ferry services, as well as a number of state transit busses that run from the centre of Sydney via Kings Cross out to Watsons Bay and the Coast.

Rose Bay is a sporting enthusiasts playground, with the suburb boasting 2 golf courses, one private and one public, and also represents the National Rugby League, officially known as the eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club.
